A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season
The winter break present a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the latest news: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to not yelling at family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items came out during the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not been disclosed yet.
