Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a new manager.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
