Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
